International Relations
ArSCRS, valuing partnerships with international organizations, opens up broad opportunities for its members to establish new professional connections and engage in knowledge exchange. We strive to leverage collective experience and resources to advance the field of cataract and refractive surgery in Armenia and beyond.
European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS)
The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons was established in 1991 and today comprises more than 7,500 members from approximately 130 countries worldwide.
Since 2023, the Armenian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery has officially collaborated with ESCRS as its affiliated national society in Armenia. This cooperation enhances the active participation of Armenian ophthalmologists in the ESCRS Annual Congress, the largest ophthalmic meeting in Europe, and also encourages visits and active involvement of European colleagues in Armenia’s annual scientific meetings.
ESCRS provides its affiliated national societies with access to a wide range of resources, including educational materials, scientific publications, and professional development programs, supporting continuous advancement in cataract and refractive surgery.
French Society of Ophthalmology (SFO)
In 2025, Vahe Nanyan was elected as an international advisor and Board Member of the French Society of Ophthalmology.
The SFO (Société Française d’Ophtalmologie) was founded in 1883 and is regarded as one of the most prestigious professional organizations within the French ophthalmic community. It plays a key role in the scientific, educational, and research activities in the field of ophthalmology.
The governing body of the organization, the SFO Board, is composed of highly respected experts who actively contribute to the advancement of ophthalmology in France and internationally. The Board is responsible for decisions related to congress organization, educational programs, selection of main lecture topics, and scientific publications.
Lyon Eye and Retina Congress (LOR)
The Lyon-Œil-Rétine International Ophthalmology Congress is one of the leading
scientific platforms in the French-speaking world, with a particular focus on retinal and
posterior segment diseases.
Our collaboration with the LOR Congress contributes to the strengthening of
international scientific ties, extending beyond the field of cataract and refractive surgery.
It also encourages the participation of international experts in our scientific meetings
and joint educational initiatives.
The White Nights International Ophthalmology Congress
White Nights International Ophthalmology Congress
The White Nights International Ophthalmology Congress is one of the key scientific platforms in the region, bringing together leading specialists from various ophthalmic subspecialties. This collaboration enables our members to maintain continuous professional engagement with our Russian colleagues and encourages their active participation in the prestigious and internationally recognized annual White Nights Ophthalmology Congress held in Saint Petersburg.
European Eye Bank Association (EEBA)
EEBA is a leading European professional organization that brings together eye banks and
specialists in the field, promoting high standards in the procurement, processing, preservation,
and distribution of ocular tissues.
Since January 2025, ArSCRS has been collaborating with EEBA with the aim of developing the
eye tissue banking system in Armenia, fostering scientific exchange, and implementing
international best practices in corneal transplantation and tissue safety.
